Honeysuckle Health buying group given green light by ACCC
Honeysuckle Health received authorisation from the Australian Consumer and Competition Commission (ACCC) to establish a health services buying group for other healthcare payers.
Honeysuckle Health has partnered with regional not-for-profit health insurer Westfund and digital cardiac rehabilitation provider Cardihab to improve access to clinically validated home-based cardiac prevention and rehabilitation programs for Westfund members.
The partnership supports Westfund’s commitment to helping members proactively manage their health and addresses a critical gap in access to cardiac care, particularly for those who face barriers in attending traditional, centre-based programs.
Cardiovascular disease remains one of Australia’s leading causes of hospitalisation and mortality. Cardiac rehabilitation and prevention programs play a vital role in supporting recovery following a cardiac event and reducing the risk of future complications, yet participation rates remain low due to factors such as travel distance, time constraints, work and caring responsibilities, and individual health limitations.
Through this partnership, eligible Westfund members can access the Cardihab digital cardiac program from the comfort of their own home. The program combines evidence-based education, lifestyle support and remote monitoring, with personalised telehealth care delivered by Honeysuckle Health’s experienced clinical team.
The Cardihab program supports both cardiac rehabilitation for members recovering from a cardiac event, as well as primary prevention for those at increased risk of heart disease. Care is tailored to each participant’s needs and may include exercise guidance, nutrition and lifestyle education, goal setting, and regular clinical check-ins, helping members build sustainable habits that support long-term heart health.
CEO of Honeysuckle Health, Misael Valdes Triana, said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to delivering more accessible, patient-centred care.
"We’re thrilled to be partnering with Cardihab and Westfund to help more members improve their cardiovascular health.
We have already seen the impact Cardihab’s program can have when it is paired with strong clinical support, and this new partnership lets us bring that same evidence-based approach to Westfund members even earlier.
Our clinicians and the wider Honeysuckle Health team are excited to proactively support more people to build healthier habits, manage risk factors, and stay well for longer".
By offering a flexible, digitally enabled alternative to in-person programs, this initiative aims to improve participation rates and support better health outcomes for members, regardless of where they live.
“By delivering care digitally and supporting members in their own homes, we can remove many of the barriers that prevent people from engaging in traditional cardiac programs,” said Chief Executive of Honeysuckle Health, Misael Valdes Triana.
This partnership highlights how collaboration between health insurers, digital health providers and clinical teams can help modernise cardiac care, reduce preventable hospital admissions, and empower more Australians to actively manage their heart health.
