About nib and Honeysuckle Health

Honeysuckle Health was established in 2019 as a joint venture, owned equally by nib and Cigna. While operating as a standalone entity, Honeysuckle Health was able to leverage the combined expertise and industry knowledge of nib and Cigna to facilitate rapid growth and quickly establish a strong reputation as a trusted provider and agent within the healthcare sector.

An announcement was made that nib will acquire full ownership of Honeysuckle Health as of 1 March 2025. This is also the first step in the expansion of Honeysuckle Health’s capabilities as we commence the process of merging with Midnight Health, a leading digital health provider, offering GP telehealth and pharmaceutical support to Australians. This marks an exciting step forward, strengthening our ability to support our patients, clients and providers, and drive innovation in health solutions together.

nib Group (nib) is a trusted international health partner, that empowers its members to make better decisions and improve health outcomes through greater accessibility to affordable health services and information. nib provides health and medical insurance to over 1.6 million Australian and New Zealand residents as well as more than 190,000 international students and workers in Australia.

Cigna is a global health services company that partnered with nib from 2019 until 2025 to establish Honeysuckle Health. Their expertise in health data science and health management program design has been instrumental in shaping our success.

We have greatly valued our partnership with Cigna and appreciate their shared vision, knowledge and contributions in building a data-driven health services company in Australia. Their collaboration has helped advance innovative healthcare solutions, and we thank our Cigna colleagues for their support and expertise in this journey.

Honeysuckle Health acts as nib’s agent in relation to nib’s Hospital, MediGap, Clinical Partners and First Choice networks and GU Health’s Medical Gap network. Under this arrangement, Honeysuckle Health represents nib as its agent to manage all of nib's existing hospital, medical and ancillary agreements as well as negotiate future agreements and funding models.

Honeysuckle Health Buying Group

The Honeysuckle Health Buying Group was established in line with our overarching purpose—to help facilitate all Australians having access to innovative and outcome-based care options.

Authorised by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) in 2019, the Honeysuckle Health Buying Group collectively negotiates and administers contracts with healthcare providers on behalf of healthcare payers (eg. private health and personal injury insurers). The Group focuses on value-based care, with Honeysuckle Health’s expertise in data science and healthcare delivery enabling healthcare payers to facilitate greater access to quality care for their customers. The overarching goal is to contribute to improved population health outcomes, patient and provider experience, and cost of care.
